Super Gals!
date: finished 24/4/24
rating: 9.2/10
type of media: anime
It wasn't hard at all for super gals to become one of my favorite anime of all time. I opted to watch the anime adaptation first because it was easily available on prime video and its first season actually has an Italian dub so I'd put it as background noise while I did stuff without having to focus on reading subtitles. That didn’t last very long until I started to really get invested into what was going on with the girls and all their daily ordeals. Very fun, surprisingly very woke and also educational I'd say? It gives a fun introspective into gyaru culture of the early 2000s without making the social analysis too boring or too similar to one you'd find in a documentary. I think it's a must watch for every gyaru (but also just people who are into comedies and anime adaptations of shojo manga). It also should go unsaid that the fashion in this anime is peak. It's about gyaru, of course it's going to be fashionable.

pretty good gyaru eurobeat cd you can find on youtube. It's really fun, but I think I've made it worse by listening to it even when I don't feel like it. the more I listen to it, the more my head hurts but it might be because I listen to it on the train... will I ever be gyaru..............?
donald duck ariel and winnie the pooh dancing to an hour long dj set of uk garage, house and more... by aijuex

I gave this a listen while coding this whole set of pages. uk garage isn't a genre I've explored much aside from what kpop has to offer, but I think this mix is a good gateway. I think I'll listen to this for a couple of weeks.

wow.... this album was such a discovery. apparently the few listens this has on spotify (which I really should stop using but its recs have been good lately...) don't match the popularity the group had in the 90s. still, give it a listen if you like poppy, upbeat retro tunes. I feel like a few of those could be karaoke songs in yakuza lol. Lover's soul is my pesonal favorite.

this album is pretty interesting. Upon my first listen, it made me wonder what small company produced them, if they always had this microscopic popularity. I was so fascinated by the low quality of the mixing, vocals and how choppy the flow of the lyrics felt in certain songs. were they trained badly or something? regardless, their songs had an amateurish feeling that felt really comforting and uplifting, almost as if being part of a group of girls doing karaoke on a weekend evening. I wish I could have kept listening to them without eventually coming to realize that they were actually a side project from whoever produced the other, much more popular jpop group SPEED. selling a group that promoted youth and unprofessional sounding vocals was the whole point and was completely intentional. sigh.
