Christmas Index 'update', Newsletter & Doujinshi reader update and other celebrations!

December 11th, 2023

Hello everyone! Welcome to Nerucom News' first official installment (ignoretheotherone)! Today's monday and everyone's busy so probably very little of you will see this update. It's a pretty important one since we're opening up the newsletter itself and another page that maybe might be interesting exclusively to ruhana enjoyers, vintage and *EXCLUSIVE!* fanworks and/or my art. But let's talk about that stuff later.

I'd like to open up today's Nerucom News with a little announcement, and that would be this site hitting 11k views and almost 60 followers !! I'm really really happy everyone seems to be enjoying my site. A huge thank you goes to my web neighbors and mutuals who are also making stunning and amazing sites and federiefederi who decided to feature me and many other cool sites on their neocities project. So give them a follow and check out all the other features too. Anyway, here's a drawing I made for celebrating the milestone, not because I'm feeling self important or anything but just because hitting elevenisrukawasjerseynumber-thousand views is pretty amazing exclusively for its personal and symbolic meaning. So, happy 11k, everyone!

Celebrating milestones aside, In today's update we've uploaded the newsletter itself and the doujinshi reader page! The newsletter is pretty self explainatory (except for the fact that I dislike this layout, what a suprise), while the doujinshi reader was made as a separate section to host the doujinshi I make and scans for the ones I collect. It's pretty barren for now, considering I don't really feel like uploading the ones I've made last year yet because they're kind of cheesy and embarassing, and I have more that have yet to arrive. Something pretty important I forgot to mention, is that the dj reader hosts completely SFW content! I don't scan and host the NSFW stuff I own for the very obvious reason that I don't *want* this site to be NSFW and I myself don't like drawing explicit content for anybody than myself, so feel free to browse and give everything a read. For now, I only own Slam Dunk doujinshi go figure, but who knows, maybe in the future I might start having stuff for other fandoms.

This was added some days before I'm announcing this but the Index page has had a very small Christmas update! It only features a new Nerucom header and a festive rucawa plush on the left sidebar, that still doesn't trust you. By the way, did you know? Most rucawa plushes you see on the site either have something to say when you hover over them (try it out with the one on the bottom right!), or take you back to the index or previous page when you click on them. Awful kind of them, no?

Other stuff that's worth mentioning are the piclog page update (which I still don't know if it's okay to keep or not because I'm using an iframe to display my profile there so, like... idk if it's like hotlinking and I'm using whoever's hosting piclog's bandwidth or something... kind of embarassing that I don't know this) and hobopro not dying after two days and it getting actual updates! I recently finished my first full week so maybe you should check that out.

For now, I don't have much planned for this site. I've been overshadowing my own personal stuff that isn't online like personal art, writing and studying, while working on this site and brainstorming ideas constantly (I'm a bit scared of this site becoming stale ngl) so I need to set it aside for a bit, considering I've already got another update planned and ready after this. So, for now, goodbye and see you on the next Nerucom News !!

Site is online! Now what? - Future plans for future reference

November 21st, 2023

Hi all! Happy day number two of my site being online, I guess? Hooray? Anyway, I'm writing here today to do a little bit of self-reflection and planning what's next for my site now that it's online. I seem to be very bothered by this site's visibility, if it's gaining traction or not, if someone's checking it every once in a while or not... I also wonder what would happen if it were to miraculously gain 'too much' visibility, which is something that would probably cause me to be a bit more diffident in what I post. Worrying about who sees me and how many people are seeing me is a thought that never seems to escape my mind everytime I decide to start a new life online and I always end up doing things for my followers instead of myself. But this isn't social media and this site is just an extension and/or migration of my online work, I'm not here on neocities to escape drama or something lmao.

On my online background

I used to be on instagram (my at is @redqilin if you're curious about that) but I hate that platform so much, it's been over a year since I last interacted with my mutuals there (If I still have any lol) in the, uh, instagram gay yakuza fandom? I wasn't even in a bad place or anything really, the yakuza fandom, despite its flaws and mild quantity of straight cis males completely oblivious to the gayness of this whole franchise, is for now the best fandom I've had the pleasure of interacting with and being a part of, even if very briefly. Anyway, if I ever go back there to redirect my followers here and you're reading this right now, hi! I didn't leave because I had beef with anyone or got cancelled, I just really, REALLY hate social media and have no idea why some of you guys are so aware of it yet still choose to host your work there. Still love you guys though. (even if you might not remember me haha...)

FUTURE SITE PLANS

Revamping (yes, already)

Anyway, enough of that crap! I had to do some serious housekeeping right after the site went online and, unless I get any reports, it's pretty stable for now and doesn't appear to be broken or anything. Now that my mind is still fresh with html and css knowledge, I have to plan what to do next. As you can probably see, most of the 'important' pages are done and the other stuff I'm planning to do is more shrines (I found out they're my specialty kind of aha) and eventual revamps of pages I didn't like to begin with.

Something I'm kinda starting to dislike is the prominence of the Wii/old os inspired pages, which is an aesthetic that I love but I feel like I have a bit too many pages that are like that (particularly, I'd like to have a partially new layout for the characters page and a totally new diary page since. I'm really in a love-hate relationship with this one). I wanted to focus on being consistent but I don't think I dig that too much. My shrines are my favorite part of my site because of the variety and how I adapted them to the character I'm discussing while still keeping my personal aesthetic taste in them, so I need to do more of that I think.

Eventually I'll revamp a bit of everything since you can really tell which pages are the ones made earlier (ex. about me and collections) and the ones made later (ex. shrines, links). For now, the pages I'm unsatisfied with, completely or partially, are these:

  • Diary
  • About (partially)
  • Site characters (partially)
  • Slam Dunk collection (partially)
  • Camera Collection (I like the concept but not the execution)

that's like... most pages?? Am I too hard on myself? This site has been online for two days only!

I also need to post my old 2022 art... I actually used to put a lot of effort back then when I still had a social media presence, so I'm actually not ashamed of showing it, even if it does look wonky at times.

New Sections

I thought the ones I already had were enough, but I might need others! My diary can't contain just everything I write and an entry like this would probably be more fitting for a newsletter or site info box. Another useful page would be a gamelog or a place to track and review media, even if I said previously that I probably would not keep up with it. I gave it some thought and realized that consuming media and games is a big part of my daily free time and I'm always excited to talk about new things I've played or watched and I always want to share my thoughts with someone. Recently I finished Yakuza Gaiden and I'm DYING!!! to talk about it, but where would I even write something like that?

So yeah, other useful pages would probably be:

  • Info Corner/Newsletter
  • Media Log

What I'll focus on

DEFINITELY not pleasing other people and worrying about who sees what. This is my online place and I do what I want! I'm sure I want this to be my online art archive first and foremost so that's what I'm focusing on. I'll also do my best in fully enjoying talking about my favorite things so, of course, doing more shrines is another goal of mine!

Future shrines (oh god this gets lenghty)

There's already a list on my to-do section on the index but I'll elaborate some more here for commodity's sake and for personal reference later.

  • Ruhana shrine: the ruhana (rukawa x sakuragi) shrine was supposed to be a super secret shrine you'd get access to after reading the rukawa shrine and the sakuragi shrine in order, but it's on the index so the cat's out of the bag atp. It's a ship I really care about and I think is really silly and a bit misinterpreted so for anyone who's familiar with Slam Dunk but not their relationship and its life and culture as a pairing outside the fandom it might be a more interesting read than you might think (even if you haven't read Slam Dunk and you're into knowing a bit more about doujin circles and shipping culture in the 90s-early 2000s.)
  • Yakuza Kenzan shrine: there's lot to talk about even in a page like this one. Yakuza Kenzan is one of my favorite games of the franchise ever and I NEED to talk about it and more people spreading the word. this game GAY AS HELL! Other than that, it's pretty obscure for obvious reason but not completely inaccessible to the english-speaking audience, as there's a fully subbed gameplay on youtube and finding stuff about this game isn't hard at all. I also REALLY want to talk about the unknown Yakuza Kenzan Remake, yes you've heard me right, that was unfortunately just a pachinko game with a bunch of assets that are stuck in there and haven't seen the light of day since 2015. The Shishido Baiken model was sooo cute too, ugh. I plan to format this shrine as a sort of mini-fansite, with various section and all since it's going to be my first shrine on a whole media instead of a single charater or a ship.
  • Vash The Stampede shrine: AUGH I need to get in the mood for trigun for this one... I swear I love Vash, I even had kind of a cool idea for his shrine though I might need to learn some javascript/css animations possibly to actually make it a thing... Probably that's what's really setting me back on planning and working on it.
  • Rinko Kobayakawa shrine: A shrine I really don't know if I'll do since I stopped playing loveplus the moment it asked me to be parasocial. I'm parasocial only when *I* decide!! And this game weird as hell! Also, the diary pages and other pages too have some loveplus UI influence so another loveplus inspired page would be too much.
  • Slowpoke shrine & collection: one day
  • expand rucaplush network: maybe? Don't know about that.

Okay, that's all for now! I'll go back to fix site issues and tell everyone whose button I put on my links that I did that. Augh, why do I have to wait a week to comment on pages? So unconvenient :c

go home?
